Well, just their pictures. The babies themselves would surely fetch at least twice that.
Images of the newborns - a family-balancing miracle bringing Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s offspring total to three boys and three girls - could command between $15 million and $20 million, according to estimates compiled by the Associated Press.
People magazine, which reportedly shelled out more than $4 million for Jolie-Pitt No. 4, Shiloh, calls the price over the top, according to the New York Daily News. Jolie and Pitt reportedly donated the money from the debut photo shoot to charity and plan to do so again.
The Nice Matin, the daily in the Riviera city in the south of France where Jolie gave birth, put the twincome at $11 million and said the couple had already made a deal with an unidentified U.S. magazine. CoughPeoplecough.
"I’ve never known a set of pictures to be worth this amount of money," says Darryn Lyons, owner of Big Pictures, a celebrity photo agency in London. He estimated that the twins’ official photos would be worth between $15 million and $20 million.
The only other photos that "would possibly come that close is Britney Spears giving birth to an alien," he says.
Veteran London-based celebrity publicist Max Clifford estimates that the first photos could fetch 10 million pounds, roughly $20 million, "which would make it the biggest baby deal ever."
"These kind of pictures sell lots of magazines," he says. "It’s a 10 million-pound gamble as to whether the ends justify the means. But obviously, it’s a very calculated risk because whoever lands the photos will have a lot of experience with the popularity of mum and dad."
Jennifer Lopez, in contrast, reportedly pocketed $6 million for twins Emme and Max, who posed for the March 11 cover of People.
Not so funny
Months after Sarah Silverman hinted about the couple’s troubles in a video titled I’m (Having Sexual Relations With) Matt Damon, only to be countered by Jimmy Kimmel’s dark revenge fantasy involving Ben Affleck, the two are turning in their comedy supercouple card, with its two-for-one discounts on his ‘n’ hers rubber chickens at Hollywood’s House of Ha-Has.
Reps for Kimmel and Silverman tell People.com that the couple have split after five years together. People magazine earlier this year named the pair the Funniest Couple Alive.
Bar brouhaha
Oliver Stone’s incumbent-bashing movie got a publicity boost during the weekend with the arrests of W. stars Josh Brolin and Jeffrey Wright in a Shreveport, La., bar.
But a Brolin insider tells the New York Daily News that despite earlier reports about a bar brawl, Brolin was not involved in a physical scuffle. The source says Brolin was released soon after the incident. Information on Wright and five crew members also allegedly involved was not available.
Love that Linds
Actress who specializes in working with difficult personalities pronounces Lindsay Lohan a peach:
Cheryl Hines, who stars with Larry David on HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, says the Previously Troubled Starlet{trade} was a joy to work with on the set of the comedy film Labor Pains.
"I have had a great time shooting with her, and when we have scenes together, we have a lot of fun improvising," Hines tells People.com at the Los Angeles premiere of her new animated film, Space Chimps. "It usually ends in a big laugh fest, and they have to cut because we can’t talk anymore."
Hines says she expected nothing less from Lohan, despite the young actress’ problem-plagued history.
"I honestly expected that she’s gotten herself together and really wanted to work," Hines says, "and that’s what she’s showing us. I’m very proud of her."
